Profiting from energy — The world's largest "hard" asset

With currency concerns the world over, many investors are turning to hard assets as a way to hedge against inflation and protect wealth. Oil and gas are depleting assets which are vital for our modern lives and those of developing countries. Consequently, oil, gas and alternative energy should dramatically outperform most other asset classes over the next decade.

The fundamentals for investing in energy continue to strengthen – world oil production has peaked and prices remain at elevated levels. While natural gas has not participated fully in the recent strengthening in energy prices, the market is rebalancing and the stage is set for substantially higher prices. The alternative energy landscape continues to evolve as green technology narrows the gap with carbon-based energy sources.

If you are not familiar with energy investing, learning about it can seem overwhelming and finding quality publicly traded firms with true value propositions may seem out of reach. That’s why I started the Powers Energy Investor and previously, the Canadian Energy Viewpoint and US Energy Investor. My mission is to provide retail and institutional investors with a substantial advantage in understanding the drivers within the energy sector but more importantly, how to profit from them as value energy investors. My Model Portfolio offers a selection of small to large cap firms, exploration and production companies, service companies, ETFs and alternative energy companies.
