I'm Bill Powers, editor of Powers Energy Investor and previously the editor of the Canadian Energy Viewpoint and US Energy Investor. I am a former money manager and have been an active investor for over 25 years. I have devoted the last 15 years to studying and analyzing various aspects of the energy sector. My focus is driven by one thing: to uncover unrecognized trends in the energy industry and identify outstanding investment opportunities for retail and institutional investors. I use my network of contacts and do my own research to evaluate and identify firms with positive value propositions, experienced management, strong balance sheets and growing production.

As a result of my experience with my fund, which I closed in early 2009, I became an activist chairman of two oil and gas firms and a director of a third. Working with company management and the oil and gas specialists on staff, has given me a unique look at the inner workings of oil, gas and service companies but equally important, has helped me identify additional factors that should be considered when selecting investment candidates. The result is my model portfolio. I eat my own cooking, as they say and fully disclose my shareholder status and/or director status with any firms in the portfolio.
